Black History Month UK 2023

In October, we stared through the 'Before Windrush' lens to examine the lives of Black Britons such as 19th century composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Ivor Cummings, the forgotten mentor of the Windrush Generation, who were living in the UK before the arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948.

Along with exploring the under-reported stories of Black doctors and nurses working in healthcare before the NHS such as Kofoworola Abeni Pratt, one of the first Black nurses to train in the NHS and a pioneer of nursing in post-independent Nigeria. The African princesses who trained as nurses during the second world war.
