George Arthur Roberts was a soldier, activist and London firefighter who helped keep London safe in the 2WW.
George Arthur Roberts (b. Trinidad, 1 Aug 1890) escaped the limited prospects of colonial life by joining the West India Regiment, learning a trade and later volunteering for European service in WWI. He fought at Gallipoli, Loos and the Somme, helped recruit hundreds of Caribbean men into the British West Indies Regiment, and faced the racial discrimination that consigned many colonial troops to labour roles and denied them recognition after the war.
